Flash Floods Kill 3, Displace 1,400+ Homes in Adamawa

Fresh flooding has hit Adamawa State, leaving three people dead and more than 1,415 households counting their losses.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the flash floods struck after heavy downpour on Tuesday, submerging 13 communities in Yola North and Yola South LGAs. Over 40 people were injured, while farmlands and key infrastructure were washed away, crippling livelihoods.

Displaced families are now being sheltered within host communities, while others have been moved to a resettlement camp in Girei. NEMA says urgent humanitarian needs include food, shelter, clean water, and medical aid.

The agency warned residents in flood-prone areas to stay alert and follow early warning advisories as the rainy season peaks. It also pledged to keep working with ADSEMA, local committees, and partners to cushion the impact.

Context:
This disaster comes barely two months after 25 people were killed and more than 5,500 displaced by torrential floods in the same Yola axis. With climate change intensifying rainfall patterns, floods are becoming a yearly nightmare across Nigeria.
