NECO’s Stand on Exam Malpractice

According to the examination body, 13 states and several schools were caught in whole-school malpractice during the 2025 SSCE. NECO further revealed that nine supervisors have been recommended for blacklisting over aiding exam malpractice, poor conduct, and indiscipline.

Despite these issues, NECO recorded a major success – releasing the results in record time. Encouragingly, over 60% of candidates earned five credits, including Mathematics and English, a key requirement for university admission.

NECO’s New Plan for English Language Exams

Meanwhile, NECO has announced an adjustment coming into effect from the 2026 SSCE Internal exams. The body will reduce the number of questions in English Language Paper III from 100 to 80.

According to Sunday K. Bolaji, NECO’s State Coordinator for Osun, the exam will still test six sections but with fewer questions, aimed at making the process more effective and less cumbersome.
