JAMB Uncovers Shocking Tech-Driven Malpractices in 2025 UTME
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised alarm after uncovering disturbing levels of high-tech examination malpractice rocking Nigeria’s admission process.
This revelation came through the report of JAMB’s Special Committee on Examination Infractions, presented in Abuja.
Finger Blending and AI-Assisted Cheating
According to the Committee’s Chairman, Jake Epelle, investigators discovered 4,251 cases of “finger blending” – a biometric fraud technique where candidates manipulate fingerprint recognition systems to cheat their way into exams.
Even more shocking, there were 192 recorded instances of AI-powered impersonation through image morphing, a process where fraudsters digitally alter facial images to beat identity verification during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Mr. Epelle didn’t mince words:
“What we discovered shocked us deeply. Examination malpractices have evolved into a highly organised, technologically driven, and culturally normalized enterprise.”
A Wake-Up Call for Nigeria’s Education System
The findings reveal just how sophisticated exam malpractice has become, shifting from crude tactics to digital manipulation using artificial intelligence and advanced biometric tricks. This has raised fresh concerns about the credibility of Nigeria’s admissions process and the urgent need for smarter safeguards in future exams.
