OAP Dotun’s ‘Rudeboy’ Drama: Divorce, Forced Abortion Claims & a Defamation Showdown

Na so the internet shake today as veteran OAP Dotun, wey dey famous for turning every radio studio into a hypeman arena, find himself tangled in a messy court saga. The talk of the town? A woman named Thamani accusing him of taking a ‘rudeboy’ route to silence a lady who claimed his wife forced her to abort. The drama don spread like fire on a Lagos market, and Nigerians dey divide sharply on who get the right side.

What really happened? The divorce papers

Back in 2021, Dotun’s ex‑wife, Omotayo, filed for divorce at the Federal High Court, Abuja (Suit No: GWD/PET/25/2021). According to Punch, Daily Post and People’s Gazette, the filing listed unending emotional abuse, forced abortion and domestic violence as the reasons. Omotayo’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, signed the court document alleging Dotun forced her to abort their third pregnancy.

Omotayo claimed the abortion was coerced, a charge that would have been a massive scandal for any public figure. However, the court documents never mentioned any forced termination – they only spoke about a gender‑selection request because Omotayo wanted a boy. The pregnancy later ended in miscarriage, and the “abortion” narrative began to swirl on social media.

Dotun’s rebuttal – blame the ‘D’Banj’ conspiracy

Dotun was quick to fire back. He said the allegations were a set‑up by D’Banj – who happens to be Omotayo’s brother – and other “conspirators” aiming to tarnish his image. In a 2022 tweet he wrote, “Anyways, @Iambangalee of life, I have heard and read the spurious lies you, your half‑baked lawyer and your family have fabricated with the press and the police and I promise you, I am ready for you.” According to him, there is no record of any forced abortion in the court papers; the couple merely sought gender selection.

He also claimed the whole thing was a smear campaign, with Thamani (the lady who later posted the accusations) being used as a pawn. Thamani later apologised publicly, but Dotun insisted the apology does not erase the defamation, and he is prepared to take her to court.

Twitter NG split – who dey support who?

Naija Twitter turned into a battlefield. Some users rallied behind Thamani, calling her a victim of a powerful media circus, while others cheered for Dotun, demanding that the alleged defamation be punished. Legal experts point out that if the case goes to court, Dotun’s win is not guaranteed – defamation law in Nigeria can also bite the accuser if the statements are proven false and damaging.

Meanwhile, the custody saga adds another layer of drama. Dotun says Omotayo eloped with their two kids without his consent and even accused the US Embassy of colluding with D’Banj to keep the children away from him. He claims he has been denied access to his children for three years, a claim that has stirred sympathy among many netizens.

What’s next for the OAP?

As the legal dust settles, Dotun maintains he is “fine and in good spirits,” insisting he only wants justice. Whether the court will side with him or Thamani remains to be seen, but the story has already highlighted how quickly personal disputes can become national talking points in the age of social media.

One thing’s for sure – the OAP who once changed the hypeman game in Nigeria now finds himself in a real‑life drama that could redefine his public image. Nigerians will be watching closely, ready to comment, share, and perhaps even vote with their wallets when the next chapter unfolds.
