Rashford Shines for Barcelona, Sends Message to Amorim with Champions League Brace

Marcus Rashford reminded the football world of his brilliance with a sensational performance for Barcelona in the Champions League, scoring twice against Newcastle United in front of England manager Thomas Tuchel.

The 27-year-old, once sidelined at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, showed his class on the biggest stage. After a frustrating first half where Newcastle’s defence held firm, Rashford came alive after the break.

His first goal — a precise header from a Jules Kounde cross — caught many by surprise, given aerial play wasn’t his trademark at Old Trafford. But it was his second that truly stole the show: evading a challenge before unleashing a thunderous 25-yard strike that crashed in off the post, leaving Nick Pope with no chance.

The celebrations told their own story. Pure joy after his first goal, but following the second, Rashford made his trademark gesture — finger to his temple — a move that seemed directed at Amorim. The Portuguese coach had exiled him to United’s ‘Bomb Squad’ and eventually shipped him out on loan after publicly questioning his commitment.

Barcelona, however, are seeing a rejuvenated Rashford. Just days earlier, he assisted Raphinha with a pinpoint cross in a 6-0 demolition of Valencia. That contribution earned him a starting place from Hansi Flick, and he repaid the faith in emphatic style against Newcastle.

For Rashford, this brace was more than just goals — it was a statement: he’s not finished yet.
