Tough Times for Barcelona as Double Injury Blow Hits Flick’s Plans

Barcelona’s preparations for a crucial week have been rocked by a catastrophic double setback, with first-choice goalkeeper Joan García and Brazilian winger Raphinha both sidelined. The injuries come at the worst possible moment, as the Blaugrana face back-to-back challenges in La Liga and the Champions League.

Raphinha Ruled Out for Three Weeks

The club confirmed that Raphinha has sustained a hamstring injury in his right leg. Tests suggest the Brazilian international will be unavailable for approximately three weeks. This rules him out of Sunday’s La Liga clash with Real Sociedad, the following league encounter against Sevilla, and — most critically — the Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.

In his absence, Marcus Rashford, who has been in strong form, is expected to feature on the flank as Flick reshuffles his attacking options.

Joan García Suffers Knee Setback

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Joan García suffered a serious blow during Friday’s training session. Barcelona revealed the 23-year-old has ruptured the medial meniscus in his left knee. He will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on Saturday under the supervision of Dr. Joan Carles Monllau, with an estimated recovery time of four to six weeks.

Veteran Polish shot-stopper Wojciech Szczęsny will now take over between the posts. The former Juventus keeper has experience at the highest level and will be tasked with providing stability in García’s absence.

What Next for Flick’s Side?

The timing could not be worse for manager Hansi Flick. Barcelona’s next two matches are pivotal — a tricky trip to Real Sociedad at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, followed by a high-stakes group-stage meeting with PSG.

Still, there is some good news. Youngsters Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde returned to full training on Friday and are available for selection, offering Flick much-needed reinforcements.

For a side already under pressure to balance domestic ambitions with European glory, the coming week will test both depth and resilience.
