“Manchester United Fall Short Again in Costly Brentford Loss”

Manchester United’s hopes of building momentum were crushed with a 3-1 defeat to Brentford at the G-Tech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The turning point came in the second half when Nathan Collins pulled down his former teammate Bryan Mbeumo inside the box. Referee Craig Pawson awarded a penalty and showed the defender a yellow card. VAR, led by Andy Madley and assistant Nicholas Hopton, reviewed the incident but upheld the decision, ruling that Mbeumo was not in full control of the ball—sparing Collins a red.

United’s chance to equalize slipped away when Bruno Fernandes saw his penalty disrupted by a substitution and ultimately failed to convert. Brentford, sensing blood, sealed the game deep into stoppage time as substitute Mathias Jensen struck their third to end any hopes of a late comeback.

The defeat denied United the chance to secure back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since last year. Manager Rúben Amorim stressed the importance of urgency and consistency ahead of the game, urging his players to approach every match with the intensity they showed against Chelsea, Burnley, and Arsenal.

For Brentford, the win carried echoes of last season’s triumph over United at the same ground, a match where Mbeumo impressed Amorim. Asked if that display influenced United’s later pursuit of the forward, Amorim admitted it wasn’t decisive but confirmed the performance reinforced his admiration.

“Mbeumo showed me he’s not just strong with the ball but without it too. Watching him live gave me a different perspective,” Amorim reflected. “If I were Brentford’s owner, I’d also want to keep my best players or sell them for big amounts. I completely understand that situation.”

United’s loss now leaves more questions than answers for Amorim’s side, while Brentford continue to prove their mettle against the Premier League’s biggest names.
