Manchester United Team News vs Chelsea

Ruben Amorim has made two changes to the side beaten 3-0 by Manchester City in last weekend’s derby at the Etihad.

Harry Maguire, who reached 250 appearances for United in that match, replaces Leny Yoro in defence, while Casemiro returns to midfield alongside captain Bruno Fernandes. Manuel Ugarte drops to the bench.

Explaining Maguire’s recall, Amorim told Sky Sports:
“His ability to defend the box is important. At this moment, we need experience, and he gives us that. We always try to put out our best XI depending on the opponent, and Harry is in the team today.”

Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha are both back among the substitutes after missing the derby through injury, while new signing Semme Lammens joins the bench as back-up goalkeeper.

Altay Bayindir keeps his place in goal, with Maguire lining up in a back three alongside Matthijs De Ligt and Luke Shaw. Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu operate as wing-backs, with Amad and Bryan Mbeumo supporting Benjamin Sesko, who makes his first Premier League start at Old Trafford.

Amorim stressed the importance of careful squad management, particularly with returning players:
“We cannot risk players. When you return from injury, you have to be careful. With Mason and Matheus, we don’t want to lose them for many games. We believe in what we’re building and in the quality of the whole squad.”
