Shame on Israel as Delegates Walk Out during Netanyahu Speech at UN — Video
New York — Drama broke out at the United Nations General Assembly when dozens of diplomats exited the hall in protest as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his speech.
According to reports, the walkouts came from scores of countries displeased with Netanyahu’s remarks about Gaza. Many delegations openly opposed his vow to “finish the job” in Gaza, and his rejection of Palestinian statehood drew strong backlash.
As he proceeded with his address, the hall was noticeably drained: many seats remained empty. Diplomats who stayed expressed discomfort with the tone of his speech, while others chose protest by leaving.
Netanyahu used props, visual aids and projections — including maps showing alleged threats around Israel — to drive home his message. He also insisted Israel’s efforts were necessary to neutralize Hamas, while rejecting criticisms from global actors about civilian casualties.
Reactions around the world have been sharp. Several nations decried the speech as inflammatory and disconnected from humanitarian concerns. Meanwhile, human rights groups reiterated calls for ceasefire, and many questioned whether international diplomacy with Israel can continue as before under these circumstances.
