FG Declares: No Teacher Will Enter Nigerian Classrooms Without TRCN License
According to the Ministry, the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) will handle in-service training and community-based professional development programmes, while TRCN will focus strictly on regulating and licensing teachers nationwide.
TRCN and NTI to Play Key Roles
According to the Ministry, the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) will handle in-service training and community-based professional development programmes, while TRCN will focus strictly on regulating and licensing teachers nationwide.
Minister’s Strong Stand
Unveiling the new framework in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, issued a firm directive:
“No teacher will stand before a Nigerian classroom without TRCN registration and licensing. This guarantees competent and professional teaching for every child. This reform is about results and sustainability. Nigerian children will be taught by the best, prepared for the best, and supported by the best. It is Renewed Hope in action.”
Strict Guidelines and Deadline
The new framework goes beyond licensing. It also covers teacher registration, compliance monitoring, welfare, curriculum standards, and professional development opportunities.
But the Federal Government isn’t joking — schools and teachers who fail to comply risk losing their accreditation. Starting from 2027, both public and private schools will only be recognised as examination centres for WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and NBIAS if all their teachers hold valid TRCN licenses.

Why This Matters
The FG insists the reform is meant to professionalise teaching, boost accountability, and restore public trust in Nigeria’s education system. For students, parents, and teachers alike, this signals a new era where only qualified and certified professionals will be entrusted with shaping the future of Nigerian children.
