Nigerian Man who hack US to Steal over #350 million got Arrested in UK

Trouble has caught up with Farouk Adekunle Adepoju, a Nigerian man based in the UK, after U.S. authorities secured his arrest on fraud charges. Adepoju was picked up by U.K. police on September 15, 2025, and is now awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania to face a seven-count indictment.

According to U.S. prosecutors, Adepoju allegedly hacked a Western Pennsylvania construction company’s computer system back in 2023, tampered with emails, and created a fake account that tricked a university into wiring over $235,000 into a fraudulent bank account. The money has vanished without a trace.

“Adepoju is charged with using sophisticated cyber means to illegally access accounts belonging to a business in order to victimize one of our region’s universities,” Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti said. FBI Special Agent Kevin Rojek also warned: “Criminals who think they can reach across the globe… need know one thing: the FBI and our partners are not going to let you get away with it.”

If extradited and convicted, Adepoju faces up to 20 years for wire fraud and 5 years for computer fraud.

Cybercrime cases like this hit close to home in Nigeria, where online scams already cast a long shadow over the country’s global reputation
